The tips really just bring to the forefront the things that you should be thinking about when you consider moving and before you actually begin the move. A move to a new

When packing your storage unit, keep the items you may need the most in the front for easy access. |

If you intend to access items in your unit after storing, plan this when you rent and allow space for an aisle to get to those items. |

If you're storing tables and other furniture, remove legs and store tabletops, mattresses and sofas on end, to save space. |

Photographs tend to curl over time. To keep them flat, place them between two pieces of cardboard and tape them together. |

Drain gasoline and oil from lawn mowers and other items with small engines. |

Common sense and state law determines what may be stored. You alone control access to your storage space therefore never store gasoline, kerosene, oil based paint, paint thinner, hay, hazardous material, hazardous waste, propane gas, oil, tires perishable foods, unpackaged foods, firearms, ammunition, explosives, illicit drugs or drug paraphernalia,
or other items that need a controlled environment. |

Use containers to store shovels, and long handled tools for your safety. |

When storing metal items, to retard rust, wipe all metal surfaces with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil. |

Pack blankets, draperies, and clothing on hangers in a wardrobe box. |

Always use a high quality lock on your unit. Locks are available for sale. |

Always use climate control for humidity sensitive items. |
