Hurricane Storage

There was a time when there were a few people that brought items to store for the summer while they went to their homes up north. There hadn't been a hurricane in nearly forty years and people were getting careless. But then we had several nasty storms that hit too close for comfort. And that produced a new kind of hurricane storage. Instead of storing items before the storm people were bring their belongings after the storm had hit and their homes damaged or in some cases destroyed. They were in shocked disbelief and told stories that were some of the strangest we had ever heard. There was the lady up in Punta Gorda who lived on the bay where the storm came in. She told of a large sailboat that was anchored out in front of the house. As the storm winds increased and the waves became larger the boat broke loose from the anchor and headed for the house. It came in through the lanai sliding doors and tried to go out the front door of the house. Needless to say the damage was extensive. There were many blue tarps covering roofs and windows for months in that area. We had to be very careful that people didn't store wet clothes and furniture which would mold and mildew. We have not had any storm damage to customers belongings so far.
